Not a lot, but lots of torque..... twist a bit more..... quite a lot and still lots of torque..... twist a bit more...... lots and lots of power, dont worry about torque, just try keep the rear wheel behind the front and the front close to the ground :D

hey
iv just bought an 09 6 day 300 exc - rides great once sorted suspension & jetting ( well near enough at mo) but top end seems missing - topped out at 75 !! flat out on a road - my mate came past me on his 250exc like i was stood still !!! any ideas ?? heard it maybe the power valve not open fully ??
seems to have plenty of torque !!
what you rekon to putting the cr250 '99 needle in ?? did it to my 200exc & it made a difference

sorry for hijacking thread - but idont no what it gives out BHP - but i herad arounf 50 ??

I can't see the 300 making any more than around 30-40 max as i have the 450 and i would guess thats under 50bhp.
I would have a look at your bikes sprockets if you need more top end before playing with the power valve.

It is probably under geared, check what you have, 14/50 is good compromise, plenty low in first and quick enough in top for any forestry road at least.

For a given capacity, a 2 stroke can easily develop twice the power of a 4 stroke. This is the reason for 125 2 strokes being run against 250 4 strokes, and 250 2 strokes being run against 450+ 4 strokes. A stock (derestricted) KTM200EXC puts out close to 40hp (think the "official" figure is 39hp), and a 300 is heading toward 45hp.

All I know is that my 300 absolutely rips!!!! As Ped says I reckon they ve gotta be 45hp or so!!! Although mine still reminds me at times that it will not take any shit!!!!

thinking about it ped my old cr125 was pushing around 35bhp it's to easy to get torque mixed up with bhp.

TBM, Issue 166, page 71 an 09 300 has 36.64bhp (DYNo'd) at the rear wheel using a knobbly tyre. Our American friends are fond of claiming BHP figures at the drive sprocket, or worse still at the crank and i suspect some of those are bull.

job to know what to believe, there were some dyno tests/graphs posted on ktm talk about 12 months ago- from memory it was a 300 xc 09 and was pushing into the mid forties for hp, it was higher than the 450 it was up against. age does kill the memory tho.
IMO- it is what it is. more than enough for me- its the torque that means more to me!

That'll be 36.64RWHP, and will always be less than BHP, which is the power at the crank without gearbox and drivetrain losses. And knobbly tyres are crap on a dyno - slip too much and that'll give lower than true dyno readings.

Not sure about that one. I think I recall ( on a Husaberg website about 6 years ago ) a dyno shootout of all the popular enduro bikes. The Gas Gas ec300 was about second highest and on a par with a 520 KTM exc.

Of course if a road tyre was fitted then there would be more BHP...... Does anyone know of a rider who has raced with road tyres in a wet H&H/Enduro?..... atleast they can say they've got nearly 40bhp and came last...lol

09 Gas Gas 300 = 34.02 bhp and the 09 husky wr300 = 35.75bhp

What about the weight of the bikes now theres another laugh.......perhaps its time to have a quizz and find out what all the bikes weigh and no cheating, so included is petrol, oil, tyres, lights, number plate etc....

When my 200 Exc was a couple of months old - it developed a power valve problem that resulted in a rolling road set up.
The rear tyre was replaced with a road tyre and when finally working/set up - it kicked out 32hp

Whatever tyre is fitted, the BHP will be the same as it's the power at the crank. Just the dyno won't be able to give proper readings with a knobbly.

Below is some info I came across, now this is for the sx250 so a few bhp will have to be lost for the exc,

DYNO?

A: It's a rocket ship! This is the most powerful 250cc motocross bike sold. On the dyno, the 2010 250SX made 49.05 horsepower at 8600 rpm and 30.95 foot pounds of torque at 8100 rpm.

For comparison purposes, here is how the 2010 KTM 250SX compares to the Honda CRF250, Honda CRF450 and Yamaha YZ250 two-stroke.

CRF250: The KTM 250SX makes 12.7 horsepower and 11 foot-pounds of torque more than the 2010 CRF250.

CRF450: The KTM 250SX makes 1.8 horsepower and 1.75 foot-pounds of torque less than the CRF450.

YZ250: The KTM 250SX makes 3.5 horsepower and two foot-pounds of torque more than the YZ250.

And if you fit water injection into the exhaust of a ktm 200 you won't be able to hold on to it

You've answered your point already bhp is lost via the running gear? The TBM dyno tests you clearly dispute the results by using knobbly tyres because at the wheel bhp is what it feels like to ride and if all the bikes are tested the same way then its an equal result....Or, if you put your 40bhp engine in honda goldwing shaft drive chassis the bike still makes 40bhp at the crank and is slower than a dale wintons shopping trolley dash. don't tell me you ride with your wheels connected at either end of the crank...lol only joking.....crank testing is another form of engine testing, something like a pregnancy test for a man, possible but a waste of time...lol

Do you know of any H&H/Enduros that have a course made out of smooth steel rollers?
